These boards leave the natural edges of the tree on the board. Most are full Boule’s with Live Edge on both sides of the board and are perfect for a variety of projects.

When you get Live Edge Wood Slabs from Capitol City Lumber, you can expect thicknesses that range from 4/4 to 8/4, depending on the species. Some species will have varying thickness slabs within the same Boule. Due to the uniqueness of these boards, the “Live Edge” boards are sold by the linear foot and at least 3’ will need to be left in stock. Cuts will need to be measured and made from the end of the board.

Sycamore is similar to maple in color and usually grows in Canada and the U.S. Sycamore can be white or light tan in color which is mainly the sapwood to a darker reddish brown trait of the heartwood.

Figured Sycamore Live Edge Boule is typically quarter-sawn with a distinctive fleck appearance. It has a fine grain and is even in texture with small to medium pores. Sycamore is mainly used for interior projects and is not rot-resistant.

Santos Live Edge Boule

White Oak Live Edge Boule

White Oak Live Edge Boule is very durable by nature. It has a creamy to light brown sapwood and a light to medium brown heartwood. White Oak lumber has pores that are usually plugged with tyloses. This makes the liquid impenetrable. This is why it’s typically used for outdoor use and boat building.

White Oak is very heavy and is good to use when steam-bending. It stains, glues, and finishes well.

Granadillo Live Edge Boule

Granadillo Live Edge Boule is often referred to as Nicaragua rosewood or Cocobolo. It comes from Central America and is an exotic wood that ranges from red to purplish brown. The sapwood is white to cream.

It is a very stable wood that has a high natural luster with a grain that is fine to medium in texture.
