Katalox, also known as Mexican Ebony, is a very dense hardwood. It is grown in Southern Mexico and Central American. The Heartwood is dark reddish brown to nearly black. This hardwood is pretty durable and has a high resistance to decay and termites. Katalox is mainly used for inlays, fine furniture, cabinet making, flooring and turnings. This species typically runs narrower than some of our other species with average widths between 3-1/2″ and 5″ wide.
