We carry unselect Birch hardwood, a mix of both white and red birch. Â American birch also called white birch, is grown in Canada and the USA. Birch hardwoods, known for having straight and uniform grain, are used for a variety of applications due to their strength, durability, and attractive appearance. Common uses include furniture making, flooring, plywood, cabinetry, and veneer. Birch is also employed in the manufacture of plywood, musical instruments, and tool handles because of its toughness and fine grain. Additionally, birch wood is often used for turning and carving projects. Birch takes dye and stains well. Â This species typically runs narrower than some of our other species with average widths between 3-1/2″ and 5″ wide.

What’s the difference in these Hardwoods?
S2S: Skip surfaced on both faces and left rough on the edges. Most of our hardwoods come in S2S from the mill. This is going to be the most economical way to purchase our hardwoods. S2S hardwoods are only sold here at the store. Need the boards milled? See our Woodshop Services available upon request when purchasing the boards.
S2S1E: Skip surfaced on both faces and clean ripped on 1 edge. We hand pick hardwoods from our S2S stock and put 1 clean edge on it for you. The other edge is left rough. This option is going to be more expensive than the S2S due to the labor and material waste involved. The S2S1E hardwoods are available through our TotalWoodStore.com online site and can be shipped throughout the U.S. or picked up in the store. Some hardwood species and/or sizes may have limited quantities at times.
S4S: Surfaced on all four sides and cleaned up on faces. We hand pick hardwoods from our S2S stock and cut it to our S4S stock. Due to the labor and material waste involved, this option is going to be the most expensive. The S4S hardwoods are available through our TotalWoodStore.com online site and can be shipped throughout the U.S. or picked up in the store. Some hardwood species and/or sizes may have limited quantities at times.
