Wood Cutting Services

Listed below are the woodshop and wood cutting services available for lumber and materials purchased at our Raleigh lumber yard. We also provide courtesy rough cuts, local delivery within parts of  North Carolina, and shipping within the continental US and parts of Canada

5×5 Plywood Rips

Our 5×5 baltic birch sheets are not included in yard courtesy cuts. Up to three sheets can be ripped down to customers’ specifications through the woodshop for a $15 fee. There is a maximum of 2 cuts per sheet for this service. These orders are estimated to have a 24-hour turn-around time or less during woodshop hours. Standard Wood Cutting Services

We offer woodshop services for all materials purchased at our location. When picking out S2S Hardwoods, keep in mind the boards will need to be at least 1-1/2″ wider for ripping 1 side and 2″ wider for ripping both sides. Our S2S Hardwoods are left rough on the edges and can have a different board width from one side of the board to the other.

  • SLR1E – Straight Line Rip 1 edge. One edge along the length of the board will be clean ripped to the width requested.
    • $20 for up to 3 boards
    • $35 for 4 to 10 boards
  • SLR2E – Straight Line Rip 2 edges. Both edges along length of the board will be clean ripped to the width requested.
    • $30 for up to 3 boards
    • $50 for up to 4 to 10 boards
  • PLCU –  Planing Only Clean Up Dressing. The board will be planed one time through the planer for both sides of the board to provide a smoother face.
    • $30 for up to 3 boards
    • $50 for up to 4 to 10 boards
  • PLFD –  Planing Only Finished Dressing. The board will be planed to a finished thickness.  Can plane a max of 3 times through the planer for both sides of the board as needed to provide a specific thickness.
    • $40 for up to 3 boards
    • $60 for up to 4 to 10 boards
  • SLR1ECD – Straight Line Rip 1 edge and Clean Up Dressing. One edge along the length of the board will be clean ripped to the width requested. The board will then be planed one time through the planer for both sides of the board to provide a smoother face.
    • $35 for up to 3 boards
    • $55 for 4 to 10 boards
  •  SLR2ECD Straight Line Rip 2 edges and Clean Up Dressing. Both edges along length of the board will be clean ripped to the width requested. The board will then be planed one time through the planer for one or both sides of the board to provide a smoother face while keeping as much thickness of the board as possible.
    • $45 for up to 3 boards
    • $65 for up to 4 to 10 boards
  • SLR1EFD – Straight Line Rip 1 edge and Finished Dressing. One edge along the length of the board will be clean ripped to the width requested. The board will then be planed to a finished thickness. Can plane a max of 3 times through the planer for both sides of the board as needed to provide a specific thickness.
    • $45 for up to 3 boards
    • $65 for 4 to 10 boards
  • SLR2EFD Straight Line Rip 2 edges and Finish Dressing.  Both edges along length of the board will be clean ripped to the width requested. The board will then be planed to a finished thickness. Can plane a max of 3 times through the planer for both sides of the board as needed to provide a specific thickness.
    • $55 for up to 3 boards
    • $75 for up to 4 to 10 boards
  • Plywood and Sheet Goods Rips for 1/8″ to 1/2″ thickness. The board will be straight-line ripped based on the dimensions provided by the customer. There is a 4 cut maximum per sheet. If you need more than 4 cuts per sheet, please submit layout request to woodshop in writing for a quote.
    • $25 for 1 sheet
    • $45 for 2 sheets
    • $64 for 3 sheets
    • $80 for 4 sheets
    • $94 for 5 sheets
    • Flat $15 per sheet for 6+ sheets
  • Plywood and Sheet Goods Rips for 5/8″ to a full 1″ thickness. The board will be straight-line ripped based on the dimensions provided by the customer. There is a 4 cut maximum per sheet. If you need more than 4 cuts per sheet, please submit layout request to woodshop in writing for a quote.
    • $30 for 1 sheet
    • $54 for 2 sheets
    • $77 for 3 sheets
    • $96 for 4 sheets
    • $113 for 5 sheets
    • Flat $18 per sheet for 6+ sheets
  • Custom Flutes. We are able to provide several different size flutes on wood boards up to 9′ lengths. The wood species available for fluting are Poplar, Red Oak, White Oak, Maple, Cherry and Mahogany.
    • $75  / board – Up to 6 Flutes
    • $100/ board – 7 to 8 Flutes
    • Add $25 setup fee for stops in flutes. If the flutes stop before the end of the board, there will be a one-time setup fee for stops.

We provide planing, ripping, and fluting services for materials purchased at our location only for safety and insurance reasons. Sometimes boards from outside sources can have metal and shrapnel in the wood. This would cause great damage to our machinery and could cause an injury to our employees. Thank you for understanding this safety rule.

Woodshop Services & Quality Control Disclaimer

All woodworking services are done by hand in our on-site woodshop facilities in Raleigh. Due to wood being a natural product and the wood services being done by hand, there could be small variations and slight imperfections that can occur. We use a high level of quality control to catch errors and flaws prior to job completion.

You may be notified by the woodshop if your wood choice or size is not acceptable for the services and instructions requested. We make every effort to rectify all issues and flaws prior to the completion of the job. All woodworking projects are hand-inspected and approved prior to being released to the customer.

If a defect or imperfection in workmanship is noticed and unacceptable at the time of pick-up, please notify us immediately to rectify the problem. Upon inspection by our woodshop personnel, if the imperfection or defect is (1) part of the wood grain, (2) within the range of the instructions provided or (3) unavoidable due to the scope of the work performed, the customer could have additional costs incurred to have the project redone or altered.

Lead time for repairs will usually be a 2-4 business day turnaround.
