Key characteristics include:
- Composition: Consists of multiple thin layers (plies) of birch veneer that are glued together. Typically, it has a higher number of plies than standard plywood, providing superior strength and stability.
- Moisture Resistance: It is often treated with waterproof adhesives, enabling it to withstand exposure to water and humidity.
- Appearance: Features a smooth, uniform surface with a fine grain that can be sanded and finished easily, making it visually appealing for both functional and aesthetic uses.
- Strength: Offers high structural integrity and rigidity, making it suitable for demanding applications like boat building, cabinetry, and outdoor furniture.
- Environmentally Friendly: Birch trees are sustainable, and many Baltic birch products are manufactured under eco-friendly practices.
Birch Plywood Grading of Faces
The front face is a BB Grade which has the same coloring as the front side and is fairly clear. It does allow to have some wood coloring patches, pin knots, and slight mineral streaking/discoloration.
The back face is a CP Grade allowing for matching color patches in same wood, knots up to 6mm diameter, mineral streaking, and cracks filled with putty.
Both faces are smooth and would paint nicely.
