Mahogany Plywood

African Mahogany plywood is an attractive and durable engineered wood made from veneers of African Mahogany. It features a rich, reddish-brown color with a fine, straight grain pattern, offering a smooth surface that takes finish well. Known for its good strength, stability, and resistance to decay and pests, it is lightweight and easy to work with, making it ideal for a variety of applications. This plywood is available in 1/4″, 1/2″, and 3/4″ thicknesses and comes unfinished, allowing for customization with paint, stain, or varnish. It is a nice cabinet-grade plywood, making it excellent for cabinetry and fine furniture. It is commonly used in furniture making, interior wall paneling, decorative veneers, marine construction, musical instruments, and other crafts. Its combination of aesthetic appeal and functional properties makes it a popular choice for both decorative and structural purposes.

GRADES OF PLYWOOD:

  • 1/4″ thickness is a good 1 side plywood with a B-4 grade.  This grade of plywood is characterized by having good quality on at least one side, meaning it typically features a smooth, attractive surface suitable for visible applications. The other side may have some imperfections or minor defects, but overall, the panel is strong and durable. This grade is often used in cabinetry, furniture, and decorative applications where one side is visible and the other side can be concealed or less visible. It provides a good balance of quality and cost.
  • 1/2″ thickness is good 2 sides plywood with a B-1 grade. This grade of plywood typically refers to a high-quality plywood used in cabinetry and furniture making. It features a smooth surface with minimal irregularities, knots, or defects, making it suitable for finishing with veneers, paint, or polish. The B1 grade indicates that the plywood has high structural integrity, good stability, and meets specific standards for indoor use, with limited allowable imperfections for aesthetic purposes. It usually has a fine, smooth veneer surface on both sides, ensuring a superior finish for cabinetry applications.
  • 3/4″ thickness is good 2 sides plywood with a B-2 grade. This grade of plywood is a high-quality yet cost-effective option used for cabinetry and interior applications. It features a smooth face veneer with minimal surface defects, making it suitable for visible surfaces that require a good finish. The “B” grade indicates a face veneer with tight, even grain and minor repairs or patches, ensuring an attractive appearance. The “2” grade for the back veneer allows for more defects such as knots or patches but still maintains overall strength and durability. This combination makes B-2 plywood an ideal and more economical choice for cabinet doors and interior furnishings where both aesthetic quality and structural integrity are important.
