Additional Information

White Pine Stocked Door:

Protect clear white-pine screen door as follows:

  • Seal all cut/exposed edges (top, bottom, end grain) before installation—multiple coats; Q8 Log Oil or WoodLife preservative recommended for rot protection.
  • Finish: either stain + exterior clear topcoat or prime + two coats of exterior paint; solid stain/paint gives best UV protection.
  • Pay special attention to bottom rail: bevel/drip edge, seal thoroughly, and consider a metal/PVC threshold strip.
  • Use stainless or hot-dip galvanized fasteners and corrosion-resistant hardware; seal/paint spline and screen channel.
  • Install White Pine doors with an overhang if possible.
  • Inspect annually; touch up cuts and recoat every 2–5 years (more often for clear finishes).
  • 2/8 and 3/0 available; other widths (e.g., 2/6) can be special ordered—ask about factory edge sealing.

Cedar and Sapele Hardwood Special Order Doors:

Protect cedar and sapele hardwood screen doors as follows:

  • Seal all cut/exposed edges (top, bottom, end grain) before installation—multiple coats. Cedar is naturally rot-resistant but still needs end-grain protection; sapele is dense and durable but benefits from sealing.
  • Finish: either stain + exterior clear topcoat or prime + two coats of exterior paint. Semi-transparent or solid stain preserves appearance; paint gives strongest UV/wear protection. Clear finishes will require more frequent maintenance.
  • Bottom rail: bevel/drip edge, seal thoroughly, and consider a metal/PVC threshold or drip strip to avoid standing water.
  • Use stainless steel hardware and fasteners for cedar; stainless or hot-dip galvanized fasteners for sapele.
  • Inspect annually; touch up cuts and recoat every 2–7 years depending on exposure and finish (cedar may weather to a silver patina if left unfinished).
  • Ask about factory edge sealing when ordering or for special widths.
