What is S2S1E?

S2S1E stands for Surfaced 2 Sides, 1 Edge. This means the lumber has been partially prepped so you can get straight to building:

  • Skip-Surfaced Faces: Both faces have been lightly surfaced. While mostly smooth, “skip” surfacing may leave occasional rough spots, giving you a clear look at the grain while preserving maximum thickness.

  • One True Edge: One edge is cleanly ripped and perfectly straight. There is no need to square your material on a jointer before getting started—you already have a true reference edge to run against your table saw fence.

  • One Natural Edge: The opposing edge is left rough, allowing for a 1-inch variance in the overall width of the board.
