Meranti 3/8″ bending plywood is a lightweight, flexible, and durable material designed for bending and shaping applications. For barrel bend plywood:

For column bend plywood:

the grain usually runs in the 8 foot direction and the plywood bends in the 4 foot direction in a circular pattern to provide strength and flexibility in shaping into cylindrical or rounded forms.

In practical terms, the grain is oriented perpendicular to the axis of the column (around its circumference), allowing the panel to be bent or shaped into a column or curved shaft with structural integrity.
