Fire-Retardant Interior CDX Plywood
Fire-Retardant Interior CDX Plywood is specially treated with chemical pressure to slow the spread of flames and reduce smoke generation. In the event of a fire, this plywood will inhibit fire spread and produce less smoke. It can be obtained as either Flame-Pro or Pro-Wood Fire Retardant brands. Additionally, in certain building types specified by model building codes, this plywood may be substituted for materials classified as non-combustible.
This plywood is made from either pine or fir and is graded as CD, which is a sheathing grade allowing for knots and blemishes on both surfaces, rather than an appearance grade. The treatment used is suitable only for interior applications and should not be exposed to direct weather or moisture. It is available exclusively in full 4×8 sheets.
Additional Information
Here are the key points about Fire-Retardant Interior CDX Plywood:
- Finish Options: Fire-retardant plywood can be painted or stained like untreated wood; however, consider the flammability of the finish.
- Intended Use: This plywood is designed for interior applications only. It should be protected from direct moisture, precipitation, or regular condensation.
- Material Properties:
- Corrosivity: It has low corrosivity.
- Hygroscopicity: It exhibits low hygroscopicity.
- Hardware Recommendations: Use galvanized steel hardware, as the treatment does not increase the corrosion risk of bare steel.
- Permissible Modifications:
- Ripping or cross-cutting the plywood, drilling holes, and light sanding are allowed.
- There is no need to field-treat cut ends to maintain the flame spread rating.
These points highlight the important characteristics and usage considerations for fire-retardant interior plywood.
