Red Oak Plywood
Domestic red oak plywood is known for its durability and strength, making it an excellent choice for furniture, flooring, and cabinetry. It features a warm, reddish-brown appearance with a pronounced, open grain that often shows strong ray fleck and cathedral patterns that enhances its aesthetic appeal.
Constructed with cross-banded layers over hardwood, softwood, or plywood cores and sold with interior or exterior glue ratings, the panels provide good strength and stiffness for cabinetry, furniture, doors, shelving, millwork and paneling. They machine, fasten, and finish well; however, the open grain usually benefits from a grain filler to achieve a smooth surface.
Moderately hard and wear-resistant, red oak plywood is heavier than comparable softwood plywood. The plywood is easy to work with, allowing for straightforward cutting, shaping, and sanding. It also takes stains and finishes well, helping to achieve attractive and customized final surfaces. Typically used indoors, red oak plywood offers good moisture resistance but is not waterproof, so it is best suited for interior applications.
Cost-effective and environmentally friendly, this plywood is made from sustainably harvested red oak trees. It is available in a variety of thicknesses, including 1/4″, 1/2″, and 3/4″, providing versatile options for different projects and needs.
Full 4×8 sheets are available in stock at our location. We also have a limited selection of partial redi-cut sheets in stock.

GRADES OF PLYWOOD:
- The 1/4” thickness is a good 1 side plywood graded A3. An A-3 grade for domestic plywood generally indicates a high-quality sheet with a smooth, defect-free face veneer free of knots, splits, or repairs, making it suitable for visible or decorative applications. The back veneer is of similar quality but may have minor imperfections. The adhesive and bonding process meet strong durability standards, suitable for both structural and non-structural uses depending on specific requirements. This grade is commonly used in interior projects such as furniture, cabinetry, and wall paneling, where appearance and surface integrity are important.
- The 1/2” and 3/4” thickness is a good 2 sides plywood graded B2.The B-2 cabinet plywood grade is a high-quality yet cost-effective option used for cabinetry and interior applications. It features a smooth face veneer with minimal surface defects, making it suitable for visible surfaces that require a good finish. The “B” grade indicates a face veneer with tight, even grain and minor repairs or patches, ensuring an attractive appearance. The “2” grade for the back veneer allows for more defects such as knots or patches but still maintains overall strength and durability. This combination makes B-2 plywood an ideal and more economical choice for cabinet doors and interior furnishings where both aesthetic quality and structural integrity are important.
